From Memorial Happenings Issue # 63:
Pastor's Paragraphs -- Joe Agne :
This Sunday in worship at 10 a.m. (and in a luncheon at noon) we celebrate Carlton’s Maaia’s ministry with us and send him with love to pursue his faith and musical journey in the Berkshires. Carlton asked me to write a recommendation for him last fall. This is part of what I wrote:
Carlton has written many musical pieces, marking particular times in the church year or particular moments in the lives of persons in the congregation. These are highlights for the congregation. On a number of occasions Carlton has brought to us the Global Praise music of the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church. One of these was a festival marking the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. held at Congregation Kol Ami, a temple in the Reformed tradition. These Global Praise events have included musicians from Africa, Europe, Latin American and the United States.
Carlton thinks theologically and musically. He is helping this congregation of Methodists learn some of the beauty of the Catholic liturgy, in which Carlton was raised. He is working on a movie score, a children’s musical and an opera about the life of Franz Liszt. Each summer he is the musical director for a theatre in the Berkshires. He is knowledgeable of the Biblical stories, the lectionary, what is going on in the world and Catholic and Methodist hymnody.
